The journey to Spier Wine Farm's perfect eCommerce Integration

Spier Wine Farm was established in 1692 in Stellenbosch, South Africa, and has transformed from a small cellar into a major, award-winning wine farm.

Spier created a Shopify site to sell wine, food, and retail items to customers. This project required flexibility in the integration engine to accommodate complex order processing rules. This meant that a generic “plugin” would not provide a comprehensive integration.

We were engaged to integrate their Shopify eCommerce site to their Microsoft Business Central (Navision) accounting package.

For this integration, we had many out-of-the-box requirements and our requirements also changed a few times. The team from Moditar took this in their stride and delivered a product that resulted in an accurate financial integration. We appreciate that someone from the team is always available for us and that issues are solved within a day.” Karin at Spier Wine Farm

Orders needed to be processed differently for the business, according to 4 separate considerations:

  1. 1. Regular or Club Member order
  2. 2. Credit Card or by EFT
  3. 3. Food order or a wine delivery order
  4. 4. Independent line-item VAT validation

Orders are also analyzed and, where delivery is necessary, the integration engine will add extra shipping lines, depending on certain order criteria.

Location and product data is synchronised between Shopify and Business Central to avoid relying on data mapping and maintaining a single source of truth for the data.

Since the go-live date, Spier’s Business Central system has undergone multiple upgrades which required connection changes and workflow adjustments. These were all accomplished seamlessly using the Utopia Integration Engine.
